NEC Display Solutions maintains its domination of the European market for large-format public displays

Munich, 4th July 2008 – NEC Display Solutions is continuing its success in the market segment for large-format public displays ranging from 32” to 65” LCD and plasma displays, having shown market leadership now for three consecutive quarters. According to the marketing research institute Meko Ltd., NEC Display Solutions Europe GmbH is now clearly well ahead of the competition in the manufacturing rankings of the European monitor market (EMEA) and has established itself as the dominant vendor of professional display solutions. This is underlined by its market share in the fourth quarter of 2007 (26.9 percent) and its even more successful first quarter of 2008 where market share rose to 28.3 percent.

During the past three quarters (third and fourth quarters of 2007 as well as the first quarter of 2008) NEC Display Solutions has consolidated its leadership of the public display market. In so doing, the company has also grown substantially more strongly than the overall market. Comparing the first quarter of 2007 with the first quarter of 2008, NEC Display Solutions has grown by almost 80 percent (78.96), while over the same period the overall market has only registered a 16 percent increase.

Thanks to its vertically-structured product portfolio, with specialised products and solutions for digital signage, for public areas and at the point-of-sale, NEC Display Solutions has been able to make significant impact with its demonstrably high-quality solutions. The manufacturer offers LCD displays ranging in size from 32” to 65”, as well as displays based on plasma technology ranging in size from 42” through to 60”.

In the LCD market segment, NEC Display Solutions clearly dominated the market in the first quarter of 2008 with a 35 percent market share as measured by sales volume, and enjoyed a significant lead over the nearest competitor who could only manage a market share of 24 percent. In the plasma sector, the monitor manufacturer succeeded in gaining second place with an 18 percent market share, again as measured by sales volume. Success in this product category was particularly due to its successes in the sale of 42” plasma monitors. In addition, particularly salient in the LCD market were the sales volumes of the 32” and 46” models during the first quarter of 2008. The most successful model, however, was the 40” model with a market share of 37.4 percent.

“We’ve managed to successfully maintain our market leadership in the public displays segment now for over three successive quarters with clear growth,” stated Peter Kroyer, Vice President Marketing, Product & Solutions Management. He continued, “We’ve been able to impressively demonstrate that our strategy to create a vertical product structure, as well as our comprehensive partner program has been very well received. Our PD solutions, including built-in computers, CAT-5 receivers and EduMount for our short-distance projectors are important developments and are making the concept of “Display Solutions” truly visible to our customers in all senses of the word.”
