The hardest decision to make when deploying PACS or web PACS workstations to areas outside of radiology such as A&E, clinics, orthopaedics, ICU and ward, is the type of display. In some areas diagnosis needs to be made quickly and accurately from these displays, in other areas displays are solely used for review. Matching your IT budget for displays without compromising on quality has until now been impossible.
The NEC MDView colour LCDs have been designed with both reliable quality and affordability in mind. Unique built-in firmware features (which you will not find in off-the-shelf or system-bundled LCDs) make MDView displays, which can be calibrated to the DICOM Grayscale Display Function using NEC’s GammaCompMD software, ideal for all secondary diagnostic and review/referral PACS and webPacs applications.
Features such as 12 bit gamma correction, ultra-thin bezels and landscape / portrait auto-switch, have made the NEC MDView colour series the overwhelming choice of the medical industry.
Features to look for when purchasing a secondary diagnostic or review display
- A high brightness, high contrast display increases the number of Just Noticeable Differences (JND) of grey tones, improving image quality. Best LCD panel technology (as used in the primary diagnostic displays) ensures the best image quality even when viewed from a slight angle.
- A display that allows Calibration of onscreen brightness and whiteness (white colour) to ensure diagnostic image quality and consistency for the life of the product.
- Software should be provided with the display that enables the user (or network administrator) to check the displays on-going conformance to the DICOM Part 14 standard and to perform recalibration if required. The QA software should force Quality Control procedures to take place before reporting starts or at scheduled intervals as detailed in the DIN 6868-57, AAPM and IPEM Report91 guidelines.
- Review displays are long term critical investments. Review displays should be backed up with at least a 3 year warranty, with on-site service.
- Displays used in a dual screen configuration or even displays within a department or hospital site should display images consistently. Make sure all review displays purchased can be easily matched in the field for brightness and white colour.
