X-Light® Technology Every MD21 series LCD panel has an integrated fast-feedback backlight sensor, X-Light®, that continuously monitors and re-adjusts both the brightness and whiteness of the displayed image, for the life of the product.

The key benefits of X-Light® :
Backlight Stabilisation X-Light® ensures the NEC MD LCD panel will reach its optimum calibrated brightness level for diagnostic reporting within 30 seconds of powering on or coming out of power save mode. Reporting radiologists used to unplanned interruptions are not further delayed by having to wait for the display to reach its optimum brightness.
Constant Brightness X-Light® temperature sensor and inverter controllers automatically maintain a constant calibrated brightness level for the life of the MD SERIES product, compensating for brightness changes caused by surrounding temperatures and the passage of time.
Brightness uniformity NEC utilises edge-lighting techniques to ensure unrivalled brightness uniformity not just in the centre of the display but also at the edges again enabling accurate diagnosis at all points on the image.
Constant White Point for individual displays Illustrated on CIE chromacity triangle after 10,000 hours of use
In all LCD displays non proportional degradation of red, green and blue phosphors causes a natural shift of the backlight to yellow. X-Light®’s colour sensor, monitors and adjusts the white colour tint automatically. Radiologists who are used to reporting from a consistently coloured clear or blue film, will find the same colour life-time consistency from our displays.
Reducing life time costs Unlike displays that are matched in pairs for white point consistency in the factory, X-Light® allows NEC displays to be matched in the field simply by copying the white point setting from one display to the next.
Matched white points ensure that all displays within a hospital show a consistent image, imperative to consistent accurate diagnosis, especially when comparing images in a dual display configuration.
White point matching in the field reduces downtime and servicing costs. Single displays rather than matched pairs can be swapped out if one is defective.
