Display solution for the financial marketThe era when traders opted for a good security and then waited until the anticipated profits arose is long gone. Nowadays, millions are moved in seconds and anyone who wants to make money needs to be able to obtain, evaluate and make use of a vast array of information in the shortest possible time. Successful investors make use of many individual winning strategies, but they are all exactly the same in one respect: They consist of a combination of analysis and rapid action. They begin by getting a feeling for the direction in which the market or a certain security is moving, followed by a period of observation and then the actual reaction, where seconds frequently make the difference between a profit or a loss. In today’s fast moving markets it is becoming increasingly difficult to detect long-term trends, making observation and above all rapid reaction the crucial factors for success. As a solution provider, NEC Display Solutions knows all about the decisive role played by monitors. In the age of the internet, access to the latest information has become one of the greatest success factors. Anyone who cannot view important information for reasons of space, or who is unable to correctly identify a figure or incorrectly interprets a chart at the crucial moment, because it is not clearly presented, is missing opportunities and is running the risk of considerable losses. In developing the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, the functions have therefore been specially tailored to meet the needs of brokers and security traders, in order to provide them with maximum support in their challenging environment. The Broker’s Desk – The information exchange for the financial sector When Ben Bernanke, the head of the American Federal Reserve makes a speech, it’s a busy day for a broker. He needs to absorb and evaluate a plethora of information and frequently make farreaching decisions on the basis of it – in seconds. In response to a single comment from Mr. Bernanke, the basic parameters for whole sectors of the economy can change at one fell swoop. At these times, in addition to listening to Mr. Bernanke’s speech, a broker needs to keep an eye on the initial views of analysts, and at the same time watch the prices of major shares or other securities, and observe the markets, in order to be able to react as quickly as possible, if need be. Security traders usually obtain the necessary information from between four and eight monitors, placed next to and on top of each other on their desks. Too little attention is frequently paid to the monitors needed for these tasks, which means that the security specialist is not able to evaluate the information as best he can at the crucial moment. With the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, NEC Display Solutions has once again developed a monitor precisely for this field of activity, which displays all the information to the security trader with perfect picture quality, making it possible for him to work in an ergonomic and professional manner thanks to a wide range of additional functions. Housings and interfaces for trading It has become vital to be able to combine several displays by means of a multimonitor application, on a trader’s desk. The NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi therefore has an extremely narrow bezel – just 12 mm wide – with straight edges, meaning that when several displays are placed next to or on top of each other there is barely a break and that active screen areas are maximized. In the majority of financial environments, between four and eight displays will be arranged to form a monitor wall, in accordance with the individual requirements and wishes of the user, with the integrated technology of the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi guaranteeing maximum flexibility and the best possible picture quality. Another plus from the point of view of flexibility is the redesigned stand, which nables the display to be tilted and turned through almost a complete 360° and above all to be height adjustable up to a unique 150 mm (ErgoDesign® ), meaning that every user is able to adjust the monitor precisely to suit his or own preference. Thanks to QuickRelease, the stand, into which the cable guide is integrated, can be quickly and easily removed by hand without the need for any tools, enabling the LCD to be attached to either a monitor arm or a wall mounting. And, in order to make handling and transporting the monitors even easier, the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi has a carrying handle integrated into the rear of its housing. Any screen for use by security traders must be able to display a wide range of signals, because traders work with the most varied applications and sources. The NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi is the first monitor on the market that can be connected to up to 3 PCs at the same time. Thanks to ambix3™, the three available interfaces, DVI-D, DVI-D and VGA, can be used in any combination – digital/digital/analog, analog/analog/digital,analog/analog etc. SOG (Sync On Green) signals are also supported. Computer graphics including share charts are presented on a pin-sharp display, with OmniColor™ (sRGB and 6-axis color control) offering the option of individually adjusting every color value (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow), without changing the color temperature of the white, enabling the screen to be perfectly tailored to the information being displayed. Even video information and news tickers are displayed clearly and, above all, free of streaks, with the recently developed RapidMotion Function on the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi ensuring that rapidly moving objects are very clearly recognizable. The specially developed function for displays with a 50Hz input signal prevents jerky movements – and RapidResponse technology with Overdrive even further optimizes the reaction time of the S-IPS panel. When changing signal source, the Advanced-NTAA (Advanced Non-Touch-Auto-Adjustment) function with itsvarious Auto-Adjust features, which can also be switched off, guarantees automatic adjustment to the new signal: For example, if the user changes from one signal source to another PC, which is connected to a different port or which is connected to the same port by an external KVM switch, the Advanced NTAA with Sync Continuity Detection automatically ensures that the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi adjusts to the new signal and displays it in the best possible manner. During operation, this feature also monitors and, where necessary, optimizes the input signal at regular intervals. The user is therefore able to connect the monitors in his workplace to the picture signals he prefers. Advanced-NTAA ensures that every screen immediately displays the required information with the highest possible quality picture, without the need for the user to make any adjustments to it. The changeover time (the time following a change before the new signal is displayed) has also been optimized. Thanks to the 19-inch format of the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, all displays are clear, but despite this, the whole monitor wall does not take up any more space than is absolutely necessary. Ergonomy as a success factor The need for financial experts to be provided with all the necessary information using a number of monitors, has been recognized by brokers and banks for along time now. Thus far, however, users have had to adapt to their screens – because of where they were placed or because of the ambient light. With the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, things have changed, in this case the screen can be completely adapted to meet the individual needs of the securities specialist. The large horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 178 degrees provided by the S-IPS panel on the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, in combination with a contrast ratio of 600:1 and outstanding brightness of up to 270 cd/m2, ensures that the user can read all the data and information displayed with an outstanding picture quality and without any corruption of the colors (Colour Shift), from any angle, independent of whether the screens are installed in front of him in the form of a large display panel or in a semi-circle like an information cockpit. This is also important when several users need to look at a screen at the same time in order work together to interpret a chart: The wide viewing angle ensures that all users can clearly see a precise picture. If the screens are not attached to standard monitor brackets, as are frequently used in this environment, the ErgoDesign® features of the 19-inch screen enable all displays to be adjusted to the correct ergonomic and comfortable height and angle, and thanks to TORO™-Design, the 19-inch LCD can be rotated through 90 degrees into portrait mode, if necessary. The stand allows the screen to be adjusted by 150mm in height, rotated through 360° and tilted by 35°. The diagonally arranged L-shaped menu buttons allow the user to rapidly adjust the monitor’s settings to suit his or her individual preferences, enabling all the functions to be easily and intuitively operated in both landscape and portrait mode. The re-designed OSD even adjusts automatically to the particular orientation. This is supported by the OSD KeyGuide, which displays the titles of the operating keys on the monitor, with the wording being legible at all times, even in dark working environments by opening the OSD KeyGuide. All the information, including the current settings, is always in the right place and all changes can be made quickly and easily. Naturally, the OSD can also be locked (OSD Lock) and the system administrator can manage and adjust the monitors via a network using NaViSet® Administrator. In order to ensure that traders work in environments that are as ergonomic as possible, the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi has an integrated AmbiBright function, which adjusts the screen brightness to the level of ambient light. An integrated brightness sensor permanently monitors ambient light and automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness to it, to ensure that the content of the screen is always perfectly legible. The integrated AutoBright and AutoContrast functions also automatically analyzes the picture content and adjust the light-dark ratio in such a way that all the information is presented in an optimum manner. GammaComp also enables all of the color values to be precisely adjusted on a 12-bit basis. The result is that, independent of the signal source, the picture information or ambient light, the user always has the best possible legible, reflection-free image in front of him, which is particularly kind to his eyes, and can also save his company energy and money. Monitor and computer – perfectly connected even at a distance When things start to get crazy for securities traders, it pays to keep a cool head – which is a problem when high-end computers permanently generate a great deal of heat. For this reason, the majority of computers for so-called trading rooms are installed in central, air-conditioned rooms – to ensure that specialists are not disturbed by either the heat or the noise of fans and ventilation systems. This can cause problems with signal transmission, resulting in a deterioration in its quality and therefore in the picture, in extreme cases this can result in a loss of data. This is definitely not the case with the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi. Its patented CableComp technology enables screens to be located up to 100 meters from an analog or 30 meters from a digital signal source, with signal delay and signal loss being automatically balanced out by Long-CableCompensation and DullSignalCompensation: The picture is just as clear as if the signal source was just a few meters away. The NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi itself does not require ventilation and emits very little operating heat through elegant slits to the rear and top of the screen. A newly developed electronic system also provides special EcoModes : Using a graduated or userdefined reduction in brightness, the power consumption can be quickly and easily reduced even further at the touch of a button, with an accompanying reduction in heat emissions. This is supported by the highly efficient Edge Backlight technology, which also guarantees excellent distribution of brightness. The reduction in heat emissions can be taken into account when examining the capacity of air-conditioning systems and can therefore contribute even further to reducing costs. Vital for decision-makers in the financial sector In addition to the unbelievable picture quality, the numerous professional features and the outstanding ergonomic characteristics of the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, the 19-inch LCD also appeals to technical decision-makers in the financial sector. Plug-and-Play makes it possible for the LCDs to be connected and commissioned in seconds. For larger installations, all management functions can be operated via the network thanks to NaViSet® Administrator. This means that the user can adjust all the settings to his own individual requirements himself, or can hand over management of his screen to the network administrator and concentrate fully on his own work. The administrator has numerous options: to connect remotely to groups via the network, to manage, control and adjust individual monitors or whole groups. Asset Management functions are also available. The integrated self-diagnosis function generates a reduction in maintenance costs, by diagnosing malfunctions on the inverter board or the power supply or by recognizing and reporting temperatures that are too high. Quality, longevity and future-compatible, solution-oriented technologies guarantee a long usable life and therefore favorable investment costs, while low power consumption of just 46 watts during constant operation and 1 watt in stand-by mode keep running costs down. The low power consumption is a result of the technologies and features that are used, with the Edge Backlight technology also guaranteeing minimum power consumption. The integrated Power-Off-Timer enables the monitors to be switched off after a certain pre-determined period. Switching the displays on and off, as well as changing input source, can be individually or collectively programmed for every day of the week using the real-time clock with its scheduler. Or if a user forgets to turn his or her screen off at the end of a stressful day, the monitors can do this for themselves: When the room goes dark, the integrated brightness sensor automatically switches the screen off. With the NEC MultiSync® LCD1990SXi, NEC Display Solutions has once again developed a monitor that is precisely tailored to the specific requirements of a special user group and which helps the user to perform his demanding job in a more efficient manner.
